The Jeep Compass is a sharp departure from Jeep's long tradition of building off-road machines. Based on the Dodge Caliber, the Jeep Compass only shares the traditional round headlights and grill with other Jeep Vehicles. The Compass has more off-road ability than its crossover competition, but not enough to be 'trail rated' by Jeep.

The Jeep Compass was released in 2006 for the 2007 model year. It is the least expensive vehicle produced by Jeep. The Compass provides an option for buyers who want the traditional look of a Jeep but don't need the off-road abilities that have made the brand famous.

The Jeep Compass comes in Sport 4x4, Sport 4x4 E, and Limited 4x4 trims. All trim levels of the Compass feature AWD and a 2.4 liter 172 hp engine. The Compass Sport 4x4 is stripped down, so if you want amenities like keyless entry, a height adjustable driver's seat and power windows, opt for the Sport 4x4 E.
