BMW cars include the debut of the BMW 1 Series, which includes the 128i Coupe and 135i Coupe. The BMW 3 series includes the 328 and the 335. BMW X5
The BMW X5 was released in 1999 to offer a more on-road oriented alternative to the truck based luxury SUVs offered by Lexus and Land Rover. The BMW X5 shares many of its mechanical parts with the 5 Series. Because Land Rover was owned by BMW during the X5's development, some of the off-road oriented parts on the X5 such as its hill-descent control were sourced from the Range Rover.
Because most SUVs don't ever see a single dirt road, the BMW X5 doesn't include off-road options like locking differentials or a low-range mode. The BMW has been applauded for its road manners by magazines that reviewed it alongside its truck based competitors.
Two different engines are available on the X5. A 3.0 liter 260-hp inline-six cylinder engine powers the base model. A 4.8 liter V8 with 350 hp is optional. The X5 is available with everything you've come to expect from a full-sized luxury car, from heated rear seats to a rear-view camera to ventilated front seats.
