American carmaker International announced recently that it will no longer produce its CXT, MXT and RXT recreational trucks, instead focusing on its more profitable commercial lines. The recreational trucks, which started at $90,000, were popular as corporate promotional items. The trucks’ outrageous size grabbed attention anywhere.
The recreational trucks were basically commercial cabs outfitted with pickup truck beds and luxury interiors, and were popular with celebrities before the push toward going green. International’s commercial trucks range from those built for delivering shrubs locally to those designed to haul trailers cross-country, Cars.com reports.
“These trucks were always seen as niche products,” International spokesman Jon Harmon says.
The recent gas hikes coupled with environmentalism’s popularity have shrunk that niche, Harmon explains.
