When you see a 1993 GMC Typhoon in the streets of Beverly Hills.. you stop and show respect

Rob Dyrdek had to stop and take a picture when he saw a GMC Typhoon. Most people couldn’t tell a Typhoon from a Tsunami but Rob Dyrdek is a true car guy and loves the weird overly ambitious products of a company that at one point believed building the best cars in the world was the way to be successful.

The GMC Typhoon is the lesser known brother of the already not-so-well-known GMC Syclone. The GMC Typhoon and Syclone were sport trucks built on the GMC Jimmy and S15 chassis that used a turbocharged version of the 4.3-liter V6 engine to make 280-horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque. In addition to the ridiculously powerful turbo V6, the Typhoon had all-wheel drive, giving it a 0-60-mph time of about 5.3 seconds and a 1/4 mile time of 14.1-seconds at 95-mph. Less than 5,000 Typhoons were sold in 1992 and 1993, and the cars are so rare and desirable that they command $20,000 prices still.

Statham’s Ferrari F12 Berlinetta has a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine mounted in the front of the car, the opposite of Ferrari’s typical placement. That gives the F12 Berlinetta its long nose (compared to other Ferraris). The F12 Berlinetta does 0 to 60-mph in 3.1 seconds, 0 to 120-mph in 8.5 seconds and has a top speed of 220-mph.

Bonus: if you follow the IMCDB link at the top of the page and read the comments, you’ll find someone who seems to actually believe that the first Fast & Furious movie was a documentary.

The Scion iA, which will replace the xD as Scion’s smallest car, has been caught by a spy photographer ahead of its debut at the New York International Auto Show. The iA will officially be unveiled next week, but we already know that the iA will be a small sedan based on the Toyota Yaris platform using Mazda’s SkyActiv engine and transmission technology, which is Mazda’s blend of gas savings and peppy driving feel so you don’t have to hypermile to get high MPGs.

The Scion iA looks a lot like the Yaris, but without Toyota’s front grill. More specifics will come during the official debut at the NYIAS.

The Scion iM, which is a small hatchback larger than the iA about the same size as the Corolla, will also launch soon. For those of you keeping score, that means that the Scion iA is the sedan version of the Toyota Yaris and the Scion iM is the hatchback version of the Toyota Corolla. So Toyota and Scion are splitting the sedan and hatch market for each size of car. The no doubt upcoming sedan version of the RAV4 and wagon version of the FR-S should be interesting.

Gordon Ramsay is famous for being mean to incompetent cooks and chefs, but apparently he has a softer side. Gordon just picked up a hybrid because he really cares about saving the environment for all the bunny rabbits and turtles. Or maybe not, his hybrid is actually a Ferrari LaFerrari (translation “Ferrari the Ferrari”) and is a super car with almost 1,000-hp and an F1 style KERS system.

The LaFerrari is Ferrari’s most powerful car ever with 950-horsepower from a 6.3-liter, 789-horsepower V12 engine combined with a 161-hp electric motor. That electric motor only activates when the driver asks for it (just like the F1 KERS system or a muchroom in Mario Kart), and with it the Ferrari LaFerrari has a top speed of 217-mph.

Gordon Ramsay is in good company, Jay Kay from Jamiroquai, a noted Ferrari enthusiast, has a LaFerrari too.

Toyota has announced a RAV4 Hybrid. The RAV4 Hybrid will most likely be based on the Lexus NX Hybrid that sits on the same platform and is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that makes 194-hp and gets 35-mpg city and 33-mpg highway for 33-mpg combined.

While those RAV4 Hybrid fuel economy numbers aren’t very impressive when compared to other hybrids, they are almost 40% better fuel economy in the city than the standard RAV4. The real world gas savings should be pretty significant for average drivers.

It’s kind of surprising that Toyota hasn’t released a hybrid version of the RAV4 when the Highlander Hybrid has been on sale since 2005. Maybe they’ve finally determined that small SUV buyers like fuel economy (go figure!) or maybe they just didn’t want to steal sales from the Camry Hybrid by offering an SUV with a similar price and good fuel economy.

Details like pricing haven’t been announced yet, but the Camry and RAV4 start within $1,000 of each other, so the RAV4 Hybrid will probably be within a grand or so of the Camry Hybrid’s $26,790 starting price.The RAV4 Hybrid will be officially unveiled next week at the New York Auto Show.

His Lamborghini Aventador has been through a few different looks. Brown’s Lambo has been baby blue, had a tattoo paint job, and has been painted camo to match a shoe, but best of all was when he had a Gallardo and painted it like a Hotwheels car. His Porsche Panamera also got a personal touch with a few monsters spray painted on the side. Now his Range Rover has it's own look too and even though it doesn’t stand out like his usual customizations, but it is pretty good looking.

Ronaldo also has an Audi RS6 Avant, which is much more utilitarian than his Rolls-Royce. Of course he only has the RS6 Avant because he was given it thanks to Audi sponsoring his team Real Madrid, he doesn’t really need the extra space.

Fellow footballer David Beckham also has a Rolls Royce, along with a McLaren MP412-C and an Audi S8.

Koenigsegg, Sweden’s most exciting export since Ace of Base, has outdone itself with the new Regera. The Koenigsegg Regera is a 1,500 horsepower hybrid supercar that uses a hybrid system to generate extra power.

The Koenigsegg Regera uses a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine making around 900-horsepower combined with a 200-horsepower electric motor and an additional 200-horsepower electric motor at each rear wheel. The 600 electric horsepower would be enough for most sports cars, but Koenigsegg isn’t aiming at the Corvettes of the world, it’s aiming at the Bugattis. The Koenigsegg Regera will do 0 to 250-mph in less than 20 seconds and will be able to go 21 miles on purely electric power.

In the late 1980s, turbochargers were all the rage and the very top echelon of supercars used them with astounding results. The 197-mph Porsche 959 made 444-horsepower and the 201-mph Ferrari F40 made 478-horsepower. Those were unheard of performance figures in the late 1980s. Now Hybrids have taken that space and are providing ridiculous horsepower and performance numbers to the cars most of us can only dream about. And dreaming is all you’ll be doing with the Koenigsegg Regera unless you have $1.89 million to spend.
