Honda is recalling more than 36,000 Odyssey minivans from the 2011 model year for two different problems related to the vehicle’s windshield wipers and windows.
In the first recall, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that if the front windshield wiper blades become frozen to the windshield and the wiper motor is turned on, one of the front windshield wiper linkage rods may bend or separate from the motor due to insufficient stiffness of the rod. This may cause the windshield wipers to stop working, which if it’s raining or snowing, could increase the risk of an accident because the driver’s visibility would be hindered.
This recall affects 33,341 Honda Odyssey minivans from the 2011 model year. Honda dealers will replace the front windshield wiper rod free of charge for owners of affected Odyssey vehicles. This windshield wiper recall will start on or before April 14.
The second recall affects 2,800 Honda Odyssey minivans, also from the 2011 model year. Honda is recalling these vehicles for a problem with the front windows. It’s possible the driver and passenger power windows could come off the track, which could cause the windows not to work. The NHTSA says if the windows come off the track and stop working, the windows will not be able to go up or down and could also drop to the floor. The windows could shatter into the van, which could injure the driver and passengers.
Honda dealers will replace either the passenger and/or driver’s front window glass free of charge to owners of affected Odyssey vehicles. This window recall will start on or before April 15, which is only one day after the wiper recall. Owners of affected vehicles will most likely be able to get both problems fixed at the same time.
If the recalls don’t bother you, Honda is offering a sign and drive lease deal on the Odyssey in March. With $0 due at lease signing, shoppers can lease the 2011 Odyssey five-speed automatic LX for $380 a month for 36 months. The 2011 Honda Odyssey five-speed automatic LX can also be leased for $319 a month for 36 months with $1,999 due at signing.
