Hertz and U-haul have also started hourly rental programs.  The rental companies are hoping to compete with Boston-based Zipcars, currently the most well-known car sharing company.

 

 

Unlike Zipcar, which rents to anyone, WeCar will be focused on businesses, reports the Wall Street Journal.  Google’s San Francisco office already has a WeCar location.  Car sharing could save companies money by allowing employees the flexibility of a company car without the cost of buying one.

 

In general, renting a shared car usually costs between $10 and $15 per hour and includes gas.  Car sharing programs allow users to locate and reserve cars online 24 hours a day, unlike traditional rental agencies.
